The writing is uniformly excellent, admittedly in that quipping-in-the-face-of-supernatural-danger style that you might recognise from everything featuring teenage characters written since Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The soundtrack is great as well, and combines with the visuals to create the kind of melancholy atmosphere that gives me the tingles.īut fortuitously enough for such a character-driven game, it’s the dialogue that really stands out. The characters and the occasional moving object are teeny 3D models which, while not as beautiful as the environments, look decent and fulfil their purpose perfectly well. It looks absolutely fantastic, almost entirely beautiful hand-painted backdrops that, as someone with artistic ambitions, make me ache with envy. Let’s start with the good, which is more or less everything about the game. It’s incredibly well executed, and if it sounds like your bag you should probably stop reading right now and go play it, because I’m about to say that I don’t like it as much as I feel like I should. And when I say story-heavy, I mean almost entirely story – aside from about three very slight puzzles, this is a game about listening to teens talking about their feelings and the aforementioned spooky horror nonsense.
